Welcome Kahu!
Kahu is the Hawaiian term for a caretaker, steward or guardian of an animal. I prefer the term Kahu rather than an owner.
Why aren't all Kahu's experiencing deep and joyful connections with their animals? Why isn't everyone sitting in their paddock meditating and experiencing the animals feeling so safe they start lying down with them to enjoy the experience?
The problem and answer is within the human being. The level of inner peace you have is the peace you have to offer. An equine's natural brain wave state is in the alpha frequency. That means the meditative state. The frequency that maintains an internal environment to allow for self-healing, contentment, inspiration and joy.
Imagine you are in a meditative state. You are relaxed. Your muscles at ease. Your shoulders dropped. Your tongue relaxed and eyebrows over eyes softened. Your eyelids are heavy. Your breath goes through your nose and fills up your belly, it moves up to your chest and out of your mouth seamlessly. You are connected. This feels so good. It's a completely organic bliss you always have access to. Your nervous system, emotions and breath are regulated. You feel content, peaceful, elated.
Welcome to the alpha state.
Pause with me there and feel it.
Now enter a beta brain frequency wave state.
A person comes up to you and starts putting physical demands on you.
Get up. Open your eyes. Put this on. Move. Work. Raise your heart beat. Raise your respiratory rate. Demands.
What are you feelings towards this person?
Not delight.
They showed up and put you into a critical thinking and problem solving state. For most horses, a state of fight or flight at varying levels depending on how well and fast they do what they are asked.
We've been told that is the right way to approach our connections with our animals.
Humans show up in a vibration which is created by the state your brain is in, how regulated your nervous system is, your emotional state, what you are thinking about, the words you speak and the thoughts you are having.
The vibration you have is the level of presence you have to offer.
The level of connection you have with yourself is the level of connection you are capable of having with others and animals.
If the vibration or presence you offer to your animal is not better than their natural state without you, what incentive is there for them to want to be with you?
If they feel safer, regulated, content, happier and more peaceful away from you, why would they choose to be with you?
That's a lot. Let's try another perspective.
Imagine you are back in your alpha state.
The person you feel the most accepted and safe with shows up. This person loves you unconditionally. You can ask this person any question and know you will not be judged. You feel so safe in this being's presence that even when you sense their arrival, you know they do not demand you to even open your eyes. They support you feeling good. Their presence supports you feeling relaxed. Their presence helps you maintain your alpha state. Whenever you and this person go do something, you are uplifted. They tell you they are proud of you, they celebrate your victories and congratulate you on any effort you put towards learning new things and reaching your goals. They are your cheerleader. They are your support system. They are your Kahu.
Does your presence offer value to their state or does it decrease the quality of their state?
If you are feeling a little uncomfortable and not sure what your presence offers, hears the incredible magic that our animals want us to know:
Every animal's soul is ready to offer the deepest level of compassion to their Kahu that is possible. Forgiveness to them is natural and you are worthy of it if maybe you've had some bumpy days. They are just asking you to answer the call. By their compassion and love, we unlock new levels of self-forgiveness, self-love and self-compassion. The industry has taught us the wrong way of being with our animals, we do not need to feel shame about it, we need to be inspired by a new perspective. The shift happens naturally.
They are asking you to go deeper, because they know that you can do it. They see how magical and extraordinary you are. They know what you are capable of.
The problem with the equine or animal industry is that it has told you to be the wrong kind of alpha.
It has taught people that to be worthy of being a leader, to be respected by your animal (what that actually means is to feel safe with your animal, right?), you have to be dominant or alpha. The version the equine and animal industry has sold and marketed to us is a predatory state. A state that disconnects you from your authentic power and denies you from authentic connection.
A state that when you show up to your animal as the dominant, predatory, egoic or masked version, you actually look like the least qualified being in the room to be trusted.
In the wild, the mustang who is most in tune with it's intuition and the most present is going to offer the most safety and reliable leadership to the herd.
Stepping to a prey animal as a predator, or in a lower vibration than their natural authentic alpha state, relinquishes your chance of being a safe place for them. It is the first and only step you need to make to guarantee a disharmonious and disconnected relationship.
It is not your fault you were taught the less effective, false alpha state.
But it is your choice if you want to fix it.
It is repairable!
If you seek to experience authentic connection, harmony, safety, trust and joyful relationships, you are in the right place.
How do we create change so that your presence is what you want it to be?
We work on your emotional state which is tied to the state of your breath, regulating your nervous system so you can respond in a grounded and balanced way. Through this work animals guide us to rewrite subconscious programs that aren't supporting our goals and even release trauma.
Our relationships with animals are reflections of our relationships with ourselves.
This is done through softening, compassion, acceptance. We heal.
The journey is the most rewarding choice you will ever make and the results will radiate in every aspect and relationship of your life. You will be happier and more fulfilled and your connection with your animals will be a source of joy and love in your life.
Are you ready?
